Provide and Protect

It's that simple. That's our job. If we do nothing else in our lives for families, our fundamental duty is to provide and protect.

And there is minimal alternative interpretation to this. Get and keep a job (provide money and stability); be ambitious, courageous and diligent (provide a vision); keep as much ugliness -- ignorance, people, media -- out of their lives as possible (protect their growth); come home every night (protect the home); pray for them (God provides and protects).

This may not sound too profound and this post may not be that long, but it is essential to think of yourself -- Black Family Man -- as the provider and protector of your family. Everyday. This is no one else's responsibility and even God, who will do it, needs your initiative. Faith without works is dead.
